The Eddie Bauer clothing chain, a subsidiary of Eddie Bauer Holdings, has headquarters in Bellevue, Washington, with its flagship store in the Pacific Place mall in downtown Seattle.   The company was originally started in 1920 in Seattle, Washington and was named “Eddie Bauer's Sports Shop”.  Eddie Bauer (1899 – 1986), the store's namesake, invented the down parka in 1936 and was the first independent company hired by the United States Army that was allowed to use a logo on a uniform issued by the Army.  In 1968, Bauer retired and sold the company privately.  The company was later purchased in 1971 by General Mills and then Spiegel purchased Eddie Bauer in 1988.  When Spiegel entered bankruptcy in 2003, all its assets were sold except for Eddie Bauer.  In 2005, Spiegel came back from bankruptcy and is now named “Eddie Bauer Holdings”, which is mostly owned by Commerzbank.  Eddie Bauer is featured in models of the Ford Expedition, Ford Excursion and Ford Explorer.
